Re: Dish AZ/EL rotators
If this is for EME, why not just build an equatorial mount, as telescopes would use? That way you just set the Declination of the moon, then clamp it down. After that, you only need to track in one axis - Right Ascension - so one motor, one controller. It's how astronomers do it! 73 - Rob VK2GOM / ...

Beacon tone frequency standard?
Is there a 'standard' CW or FSK tone frequency in use on VK beacons? Some beacons are said to have GPS locking of the TX frequency and others not. To check if my own transceiver which uses a high stability crystal only is 'on or off' frequency when monitoring a beacon, do I tune for a 600Hz, 650Hz o...

Re: Kenpro KR400 mounting hole spacings
Wayne, From the handbook there are 4 holes in a square pattern, each is 84mm centre to centre. The diameter of a circle that passes through the centre of all holes is 119mm. The book also shows 9mm as the clearance diameter for each hole - I assume for the mounting plate, if used. (I use top and bot...

Re: RF63 rare Grid Square ZL
Hi all, The specific UTC dates that I have recorded in my log book that I worked Stephen ZL1TPH from RF63 are as follows: 2m and 70cm worked on 2-1-2004 and added 23cm to the list on 7-1-2009 As an aside, regarding VK-ZL on the 23cm band ..... On 9-2-2001 I worked Brian ZL1AVZ/p in RF73, for my firs...

Re: Power Rating of 90 degree N adaptor
Thank you to those who responded to my inquiry, both here and privately. I 'smoke tested' the adapter in question with several sequences of jt65b with about 500 watts passing through it and all was OK and the temperature remained unchanged.I will leave it in circuit. During an extended session on th...

Power Rating of 90 degree N adaptor
Hi all, I have use for a 90 degree M/F N-type adapter. I found a 'new' one sealed inside a plastic bag amongst my collection and is labeled 91836 UG-27D/U. It appears to be silver plated with gold pins. I am wondering what power rating it may handle on 144MHz as it will be placed on equipment within...

Hi all, You could try this link - some may already have seen/used it. It will show you an Australian Geographical Radio Frequency Map for all radio services shown on Google earth http://spench.net/drupal/software/rfmap Click on the map of Australia and away you go. Keep zooming in to the area of int...

Re: Which linear polarization for 144 EME?
Last night I worked DL1DWI, who reported that my signals were best at 45 degree polarization. Gerhard has an antenna array with motorized polarization adjustment, that appears to use an endless rope/chain mechanism . I do not know the details, however he does have a YouTube video of it in operation ...

A good source of equipment manuals
Hi, While searching the net for a copy of the original manual for a recently acquired acquisition that was proving to be a bit hard to find, I came across the following site. http://www.ko4bb.com/manuals.php and the manuals directory here: http://www.ko4bb.com/cgi-bin/manuals.pl Delving more deeply ...

Re: Which linear polarization for 144 EME?
Another possible solution: A mechanical way of varying (I presume linear) polarity exists, as was evident from a QSL card I received recently from Seiichi JR3REX. His array photo shows four by CC17B2 antennas mounted on a X type frame (frame at 45 degrees to tower) and all yagis are able to revolve ...

Re: Help needed - Vehicle aircon system causing VHF RFI
As an aside to the supposed A/C noise or similar, I had a Toyota Camry V6 sedan that gave off lots of noise, mainly at HF frequencies, that was fixed ultimately with the installation of multiple tubular ferrite core - but not the split type, (2 or 3 if I remember correctly). I was installing an IC-7...

Re: Dick Smith "Lab" Power supply Q1755
Ordered one at the special price yesterday after I had an 18 months old Q1755 go belly-up the same day, with a rig just in receive mode only, so very light load on it. I actually saw the radios display go out and the green LED on the power supply extinguish. Initial check revealed a blown fuse. Repl...

Re: IC-910H Main Band/Sub Band data sockets
Problem solved. I made up a patch lead to marry onto my computer interface lead so that I have access the ACC Socket on the IC910, as suggested by Alex vk5alx. The required audio is now available. Digital operations on 23cm using my PA / preamp combination should now be more easily achieved in my sh...

Re: IC-910H Main Band/Sub Band data sockets
Hi Alex, ....... My fix is to take the signals from the ACC socket. It doesn't matter whether the radio is in normal or satellite mode, the audio always comes from the top (main) VFO Thanks for the advice. Just wondering... is the ACC socket audio at fixed level, same as from DATA sockets and is spe...

IC-910H Main Band/Sub Band data sockets
Hi all, Background to my question: On 23cm I normally TX using a separate transmitter and RX via down converters from 23cm to 2m and from 2m to 28MHz, into a HF transceiver. There is a high power high isolation relay and preamplifier mounted on the feed horn of my 2.4m solid dish. Separated TX and R...
