IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio
Re: IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio
Hi all,
The first shipment of 10 units has arrived in Melbourne..... I am fortunate to have one of them on loan for a couple of weeks to prepare a review.
Regards,
Peter VK3PF

Re: IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio
Hi Peter & Tim,
Yes, in Amateur Radio magazine will be the place. Given that we have a lead time of about a month and the radio has only just arrived, there is a VERY slim chance that it might appear in the May issue, but the June issue is more likely.
I must admit, it is slightly odd to see a transceiver go into screen saver mode (blank screen)... I have not seen that previously!
Cheers,
Peter VK3PF

I think that you will find some of the other screen based transceivers (Icom 756 and similar) have a screen saver mode. You usually put your call sign in it and scrolls across the screen.

Doh! - didn't even make the connection and here I am reading the GippsTech section in the latest copy !!! Where's a face palm emoji when you need it ?VK5PJ wrote:LOL you will find that vk3pf is the editor of AR magazine, so join the dotsVK2XAX wrote:Nice! - where will your review be published ?
My apologies for not seeing the bleeding obvious.

I'm keen to see your review Peter. I have already thought of a few items to sell off to fund the purchase of one of these rigs, just waiting to see some more reviews to convince me further.

Re: IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio
Hello,
The 7300 certainly is getting some great reviews and even has a 4.9 out of 5 rating on eham after 60 reviews, unprecedented. http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/12742
Now for the 7300S, a 10 watt version for $1300??
If Icom can also provide a transverter offset the 7300S would make an ideal IF for 144 and up transverters.
Next, to see if David VK3HZ can make a GPS xRef as well, it has a 41.344MHz crystal oscillator (X1201 on the main board) that has a reference voltage input, it may just be possible!!
There are 5 other crystal oscillators but they do not appear to be involved in frequency control.

Re: IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio
X1201 is definitely it. That unit is ICOM part CR-932 which is also the ref osc in the IC-7100.VK3OE wrote:Hello,

The CR-932 is actually a Murata VC-TCXO part number TTS27VSC-A7, details of which can be found here...
